Domain Name Registrar
A domain name registrar is a business that handles the reservation of domain names as well as the assignment of IP addresses for those domain names. The important thing to take out of that definition, is that the domain registrar registers the names of websites, and if often where domain names are purchased. Examples are providers like GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Dreamhost.
Nameservers
Nameservers are one of the key players in connecting internet browsers, to the correct IP address of the requested website. When a website is entered into the address bar, the browser sends a request to the Nameservers. The Nameservers, in turn, look up the appropriate A record, and send back the correct IP address for the website in question. Think of Nameservers like the phonebooks of the internet, but with IP addresses.
Website Hosting
A website host is where the files of a website are stored. Much like files are saved onto a local computer to load an image, video, or program, files must be saved somewhere to run a website. A website host will rent space for websites to keep their files and data on. There are many different hosts to choose from, and they give a variety of services and features. Some of the hosts we have used in the past are: WordPress, Dreamhost, and Hostgator.
